14 Nov 1947: Simon Behney, widelv known to older residents of the city because of his business ventures here, succumbed to a heart attack at his home in Jonestown Thursday evening. He was stricken suddenly while at home on West Main Street where he lived alone for some years past despite his 86 years of age. He was born at Silvertown, a village just north of the borough, but spent a considerable number of the years of his career in Lebanon. He operated a grocery store on Fifth Street near Willow a long time ago, and later was proprietor of a larger merchandiste store at Fifth Avenue and Lehman Streets. He built a hotel at Pleasant Hill some years ago, but operated it only a short time and then sold it. At another period in his life, he retailed candy on the city streets. He made a venture a long time ago in the city of Reading, manufacturing washing machines, and tried a similar venture in Lebanon County, but was unsuccessful. In more recent years, he returned to his native domain and bought a home on West Main Street, where he died. He also owned the adjoining property. He leaves a daughter, Miss Carrie Behney of Wernersville. His wife died many years ago. Strauss Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. The Rev. John Smeltzer of St. John's Reformed, Jonestown, conducted the services. Interment was made in the Kimmerlings Cemetery. [Lebanon Daily News]
