Born in Hatfield, Massachusetts, on Christmas Day in 1916, Joseph Walter Magdon (christened Józef Władysław Magdoń) was the eldest of George and Elizabeth Magdoń's seven children; and as a young teen in the late 1920s, Joe moved to Bridgeport, Connecticut, along with his parents and siblings.

Joe was employed as an estimator at Warnaco, where he was a member of the 25-Year Club and was active in several local organizations. He was a member of the board of directors of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Bridgeport and a member and past president of the Old Timers Athletic Association. He was also a member of the North End Boys Club as well as the White Eagle Society, and a longtime parishioner at St. Raphael's Church where he was a member of the Holy Name Society.

Joe passed away unexpectedly, at age 54, on Saturday, September 11, 1971, at St. Vincent's Hospital in Bridgeport. Calling hours were held from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 on Monday, September 13, at the S. Spadaccino & Sons Funeral Home; and funeral services took place at 8:00 on Tuesday morning, September 14, for a 9:00 Mass of the Resurrection at St. Raphael's Church on Oak Street, after which Joe was laid to rest in the Chapel Mausoleum at St. Michael's Cemetery in Stratford. In addition to his wife and his son, he was survived by his parents, his 6 siblings, 5 brothers-in-law a sister-in-law, 23 nieces and nephews, and a grand-nephew.

Location: Joe and his wife are entombed in the Chapel Mausoleum, which is on the west side of the cemetery (facing Bruce Boulevard). Enter the mausoleum, go up one flight of stairs to the middle level, and walk to the right. Their vault is near the end of the hall on the righthand side, near the top, next to Joe's parents.
Note: There's a passenger elevator in this mausoleum, which can be accessed from the side of the building (or from inside, on each level).
