Frank Fabian Magdon was born in Hatfield, Massachusetts, on January 4, 1924. As an adult, he adopted the middle name Joseph [Frank J.], but he had been christened 'Franciszek Fabjan' on the 20th of January at the Church of the Holy Trinity in the town where he was born. A first-generation Polish-American, Frank was the younger of two sons and the fifth of seven children (two boys and five girls) born to George and Elizabeth Magdoń. In the late 1920s, when Frank was about 4 years old, George and Elizabeth moved their family to Bridgeport, Connecticut, where George had first lived after immigrating to America and where Frank would spend the rest of his childhood years.

On June 30, 1942, 'Frank J. Magdon' dutifully registered for the U.S. draft, listing his address as 628 William Street in Bridgeport; and the military document described him as being 6' tall, 175 pounds, with hazel eyes and blonde hair. Seven months later, on 6 February 1943, at age 19, Frank enlisted in the U.S. Army; and after having served in the Military Police Corps during World War II, he was honorably discharged on 12 November 1945. In the spring of 1947, Frank married a local Irish girl, Betty Jane Doran; and following in his father's footsteps, Frank would likewise become the father of seven children — two boys and five girls.

After having survived his wife by almost nine years, Frank Magdon passed away at home, three weeks before his 65th birthday; and he was entombed with his beloved Betty Jane at St. Michael's Cemetery in Stratford.

Type of Marker: Faceplate (mausoleum)

Location: Frank and his wife are entombed in the Garden Mausoleum, which is on the east side of the cemetery (along Surf Avenue). Drive around to the backside of the mausoleum and walk into the first 'corridor' you see. Their vault is on the lefthand side, near the top.
