Elizabeth Jane (Doran) Magdon, the younger of Terrance and Irene Doran's two daughters, was known as 'Betty Jane' from the day she was born. At the time of her birth, the Dorans were residing at 431 Benson Road near Jennings Beach in Fairfield, along with their firstborn daughter Aline who had just turned three. It was a multi-generational household, quite common in that era, which included Betty Jane's maternal grandparents (Tom and Julia Daly) as well as her uncle (Fred Daly) and her aunt (Margaret Daly).

Betty Jane made her debut in 1923, three weeks into the new year, but she would never have memories of her mother. Tragically and unexpectedly, Irene Doran succumbed at age 27, just 17 days after Betty Jane's birth; and soon thereafter, Terrance (along with Tom, Julia, and Margaret) returned to Bridgeport where his two daughters would spend their childhood years.

According to the U.S. census report in the spring of 1930, the Dorans and the Dalys were residing at 1520 Park Avenue on the city's west side, where they had settled seven years earlier. Betty Jane's uncle Fred had since married and established a home of his own; but another uncle (Vincent Daly) had since moved in with the family after being widowed in 1928. As the new decade unfolded, Betty Jane and Aline (then 7 and 10 years of age) were beset by tragedy again. On the 18th of May in 1930, their father suddenly passed away at age 38, leaving behind his two young daughters. The Dalys, of course, assumed the responsibility of raising their orphaned granddaughters; but on May 5, 1931, less than a year after Terrance's death, Betty Jane's grandmother passed away at age 62.

It was the era of The Great Depression; and like most families across the nation, Tom Daly (who was then 68) was probably struggling to make ends meet. At some point after Julia's death, the two young sisters were split up; and while Aline remained with the Dalys, Betty Jane went to live with a paternal aunt and uncle [Charles and Anna (Doran) Decker, her father's sister and brother-in-law] at 296 Pixlee Place. Although Aline and Betty Jane would always remain connected, they ultimately grew up in two different households on opposite sides of the city and each would move on to lead her own life. Fortunately for Betty Jane, the Deckers had three daughters of their own; and as the years passed, she developed a closeness with one of the Decker girls (Irene), a sister-like relationship that would last a lifetime.

In the mid-1940s, after having completed her education, Betty Jane Doran met up with Frank Magdon, a young Polish-American man who had served in World War II and who'd also grown up on the city's east side; and in 1947, at age 24, Betty Jane and Frank were married. The couple first settled in the city which had been their childhood home, but eventually moved to the Shelton-Derby area. After several years, the Magdons returned to Bridgeport where they established permanent roots; and, in the 1960s, they purchased a two-family home at 117-119 Lorraine Street on the city's west side. Together Frank and Betty Jane would have seven children, five girls and two boys, the eldest born in 1947 and the youngest in 1963.

Betty Jane Magdon passed away at age 57 in Bridgeport, Connecticut, on Tuesday, May 27, 1980, just a few days before her 33rd wedding anniversary; and following her funeral mass, she was entombed in the Garden Mausoleum at St. Michael's Cemetery in Stratford. In addition to her husband Frank, she left behind her 7 children who ranged in age from 16 to 32 — Carol Bauscher, George Magdon, Arlene Carrafiello, Francis 'Junie' Magdon Jr., Margaret 'Peggy' Magdon, Valerie Magdon, and Michele Magdon; 2 sons-in-law, Bernard 'Buddy' Bauscher, Jr. and Michael Carrafiello; a daughter-in-law, Lauren 'Laurie' (Sirotnak) Magdon; 5 grandchildren — Tommy Bauscher, Brian Magdon, Christopher Carrafiello, Katie Magdon, and Missy Carrafiello; her sister, Aline (Doran) Lomme and her husband Red; her aunt, Margaret Daly; several brothers- and sisters-in-law — Bill and Julia (Magdon) Platt, John and Valerie (Magdon) Malok, Ted and Florence (Magdon) Cholewinski, Larry and Cecilia (Magdon) Dzialo, Josephine (Creddo) Magdon, and John Faustine; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents, she had been predeceased by her father- and mother-in-law, George and Elizabeth Magdon; a brother-in-law, Joe Magdon; and a sister-in-law, Bertha (Magdon) Faustine.

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face
and the rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet, may the Good Lord hold you in the palm of His hand.
