Doctor Carroll Trueheart Adriance

GALVESTON — Doctor Carroll Trueheart Adriance, age 80, died Friday, June 21, at the Gulf Health Care Center in Galveston, after a lengthy illness.

Dr. Adriance, a lifelong Galvestonian, and the son of a pioneer Galveston family, practiced family medicine for thirty years. During this time, he served on the medical staff at St. Mary's Hospital.

After his retirement from private practice, he was affiliated first with the United States Public Health Hospital, then as an examing physician for Union Carbide in Texas City, and D.O.D. clinic in Galveston.

He served as City Health Doctor for several years. He was a Chief of Staff of St. Mary's Hospital, as well as on the board off directors, and president of the Galveston County Medical Society. He also served on the legislative committee for the Medical Association. Dr. Adriance chose medicine as his profession instead of following his family in the real estate business. The Trueheart Adriance firm was the first real estate firm in the state of Texas.

After graduating from Ball High School he earned an under-graduate degree at the University of Texas in Austin, where he was affiliated with the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He then graduated from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, and was a member of the Phi Rho Sigma Fraternity. He completed a residency at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, and:returned to Galveston to practice medicine.

His practice was interrupted by World War II. He served with the 127th General Hospital Unit in England and France. This unit was made up of graduates from UTMB. After the war, he returned to Galveston to resumehis practice.

Dr. Adriance was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Galveston, and was a member of the Galveston Rotary Club for over forty years. In December 1995, he was made a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a life member of the Texas Medical Association, and a member of the Sons of the American Revolution.

Dr. Adriance is survived by his wife of fifty years, Gloria Kierbow Adriance; their three children and their spouses, Joan Adriance Mickelson and Charles Mickelson, William Lee Adriance and Ellen Adriance, and John LaBarthe Adriance and Michele Adriance; and their seven grandchildren, Sara Mickelson, Kelly Mickelson, Christopher Mickelson, Jason Adriance, Zachary Adriance, Michael Adriance, and Ashley Adriance.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret and Corneil Adriance; his brothers, Jack Adriance, Corneil Adriance, Jr., and David Mitchell Adriance; and his grandson, Cameron Mickelson.

Visitation will be held in the parlor of J. Levy & Bro. Funeral Home from' 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, June 23rd.

A private family graveside service will be held at Galveston Memorial Park.

A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 1903 Church Street at 4:00 p.m. Monday, June 24thj with Rev. Bill Zambon; PhD, offiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be sent to the charity of your choice, the First Presbyterian Church, or the Rosenberg Library.

Dr. Adriance, a lifelong island resident and soil of a pioneer Galveston family, practticed family medicine for 30 years, serving on the staff of St. Mary's Hospital. He served as city health doctor for. several years and chief of staff at St. Mary's. He was on the board of directors and served as president of the Galveston County Medical Society and served on the legiislative committee for the Texas Medical Association. He graduated from Ball High School and earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Texas at Austin before returning to Galyeston to earn his medical degree at the University of Texas Medical Branch. His practice was interrupted by World War II. He served with the 127th General Hospital Unit in England and France before returning to Galveston.

Adriance is survived by his wife of 50 years, Gloria Kiefbow Adriance, their three children and spouses, and seven 7 grandchildren

Visitation will be held p.m. today in the parlor of the J. Levy & Bro. Funeral Home followed by a private graveside service. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Monday in First Presbyterian Church, 1903 Church St.
