Gloria Gene Kierbow Adriance-Ansell passed away peacefully on May 25, 2015. She was born in Galveston on February 26, 1924 and was the only child of two great parents. She graduated from Ball High School in 1940, and then attended Mary Hardin Baylor, having won first prize at the High School division piano contest. She majored in Piano and Music Education, but before graduating, she returned to Galveston. She worked for several years before meeting and marrying Carroll Trueheart Adriance in 1946 on her 22nd birthday. She continued her education in the arts at a variety of colleges and ultimately graduated Cum Laude from the University of Houston Clear Lake in 1984 with a degree in Art Education.
A lifelong resident of Galveston, Gloria was very active in the community, serving in various capacities with the Junior League, Galveston Historical Foundation, Trinity Church, Meals on Wheels, and the Ronald McDonald House. She expressed her artistry and creativity through her music, puppetry, sewing, drawings, paintings, pottery, and quilting and shared her passion with her children, grandchildren, and the community. She taught art education in several elementary schools and worked with others to form a local quilting guild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Cora and Roy Kierbow, first husband Carroll Adriance, second husband Lee Byron Ansell, grandson Cameron Mickelson, stepson Terry Ansell, and son-in-law Charles Mickelson.
She is survived by her 3 children Joan Mickelson of Athens, Ohio, William “Bill” Adriance and wife Ellen, and John “Bart” Adriance of Galveston, her seven grandchildren, Sara Hughes and husband Jeff, Kelly Cornn and husband Bryan, and Christopher Mickelson, Jason and Zachary Adriance, Michael Adriance and wife Elizabeth, and Ashley Adriance, and her seven great grandchildren, Heather, Charlie, Cameron, and Kathryn Hughes, and Adam, Emily, and Kaitlin Cornn. She also leaves behind stepsons Van Ansell and wife Denise, Rick Ansell and wife Linda, and Bill Ansell and wife Libbie, and step daughter-in-law Julie Ansell Clements and husband Dennis, and numerous Ansell grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church in Galveston on June 6th at 3:00PM followed by a celebration of her life in Eaton Hall.
In lieu of flowers, she requested memorials be given to Trinity Church, the Galveston Historical Society, or the Rosenberg Library.
