SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Dorothea M. Drechsler, a homemaker who has lived in Santa Barbara since 1964, died Thursday, August 29, 2013 at Vista del Monte retirement community. She was born July 30,1919 in Brownhelm Township (Amherst), Ohio. She graduated from Brownhelm High School and the Oberlin School of Commerce in Oberlin, Ohio. Dorothea worked in Pittsburgh, PA, and Elyria and Oberlin, Ohio. On May 21, 1949 she married Albert C. Drechsler, and subsequently lived in Cleveland and Westlake, Ohio until her husband's transfer to Santa Barbara in February of 1964.
She was an active member of St. Mark United Methodist Church in Santa Barbara.
Survivors are Albert C. Drechsler of Santa Barbara, her husband of 64 years, daughters Deborah Drechsler of Davis, CA, Sally (Earl) Cumming of Mandeville, LA, and son William (Jenny) of Santa Barbara. She is also survived by five grand-daughters, Christine, Sarah, and Rebecca Cumming of Mandeville, LA, and Krista and Kelley Drechsler of Santa Barbara.
She is also survived by a sister, Sarah Rollin of Wellington, Ohio, two brothers, Rolland (Shirley) Angersbach of Brownhelm, Ohio, and John (Jan) Angersbach of Vermilion, Ohio, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held at St. Mark United Methodist Church on September 4, 2013. Private interment will be at the Santa Barbara Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in Dorothea's memory to the Visiting Nurse and Hospice Care Association, 512 E. Gutierrez St., Suite A, Santa Barbara, CA 93103.
