Mazie Jean Thomas, daughter of the late Willie and Arila Thomas and sister of the late Juanita Thomas Daniels and Lucille T. Lang, was born on July 8, 1933 in Morrisville, Pa.

Mazie was a lifetime member of the Shiloh Baptist Church having been baptized as a youth by the late Rev. White. She continued her Christian walk as a faithful youth leader under the direction of Deacons Byrd and Meeks, co-founder and leader of Shiloh Brownie and Girl Scout Troop #47 (for seven years), prior member of the Echoes of Shiloh Choir, the "unofficial licensed nurse on call" during Sunday worship service, a member of the Anna Louise White Circle and former Women's Day speaker, and also a short time member of the Ladies Guild.
She attended the Yardley School, graduated from Pennsbury High School and continued her education by obtaining a Registered Nursing Degree from Jersey City Medical Center, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Seton Hall University as well as a Masters Degree in nursing from New York University.

Her nursing career began with the Visiting Nurse Association of Trenton (VNA) where she remained for five years. Shortly thereafter, she joined the pediatric nursing staff at Helene Fuld Hospital. A few years later, Mazie was offered and accepted a position on the teaching staff at Helene Fuld Hospital School of Nursing. During her teaching tenure, she developed a severe case of rheumatoid arthritis and continued teaching until she was no longer capable of performing her duties. Mazie reluctantly retired in 1990.

In the community, Mazie was volunteer tutor in the literacy program at the Carver Center, an active member of the Zeta-Phi-Beta Sorority, life member National Association of Colored Women's Clubs, Inc. and the Pennsylvania NAACP, member of the N.J. State Federation of Colored Women's, West Central District #1, Yardley Community Civic Club, the Metro Civic League and past president of the Pennsylvania State Federation of Negro Women's Clubs. She was also a member of Carver Board and life member. She helped yearly with the coordination of summer camp and literacy programs at the Federation Center for many years until her illness.

Mazie peacefully departed this life at home on September 14, 2004.

Mazie leaves to mourn her passing a brother and sister-in-law Lafayette and Mary Thelma Thomas of Yardley, Pa.; two sisters Gloria and Maryann Thomas of Yardley, Pa. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
