Harlow came with his family to Michigan and they stayed in Calhoun Co. for 4 years before coming to Van Buren Co. When they arrived in Paw Paw, they were told the people in Brush Creek where they were headed were starving. Harlow's father Uriel T. wanted to raise peaches and they were told that where they were going it was all woods and they wouldn't be able to raise a thing. They were not deterred but came anyway. They reached the cabin of James Gray and were given a place to spend the night and the next morning they moved into an abandoned log cabin. Uriel bought 80 acres of land from Eaton Branch and built a frame house, but had to cut the road to it himself. Harlow lived next to that house with his own family, and his brother Anson occupied it after the parents died. Info. taken from History of Lawrence Township found online.
