J.W. "June Bug" Turnage, Jr., 82, of Hayti, died Tuesday, August 16, 2005 at the pemiscot Memorial Hospital in Hayti.

Born August 17, 1922 in Hornbeak, Tenn., he was the son of the late John Willis and Pauline Duke Turnage. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Lewis Turnage and Duke Turnage; and two sisters: Louise Webb and Mary Dene Brasher.

June Bug was united in marriage to Jean Powell on March 13, 1950 in Osceola, Ark.

He was a World War II veteran, having served his country on the U.S.S. Ticonderoga and was present in Toyko Bay as a member of the Occupation Force during the surrender of the Japanese to the Allied Powers.

He was a member of the Pemiscot County CB Club, the Motorcycle Club and the Triangle Boat Club. He was vice-president of the Caruthersville Gin Company, a farmer and a member of the Hayti First Baptist Church.

Mr. Turnage leaves his wife, Jean Turnage, of Hayti;
Three sons: J.W. "Sonny" Turnage III and his wife Belinda of Hayti, Rick Turnage and his wife Gina of Brownsville, Tenn., and Duke Turnage and his wife eresa of Lenox, Tenn.;
Four grandchildren: Patrick Turnage of Hayti, casey Turnage of Lenox and Jordan Turnage and Peyton Turnage of Brownsville; and
Five sisters-in-law: Evelyn Turnage and Ann Powell of Hayti, Genola Turnage of Owensboro, Ky., Mary C. Collins of Little Rock, Ark., and Nancy Powell of Memphis, Tenn.

Funeral services for Mr. Turnage were held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 19, 2005 at the First Baptist Church in Hayti with Dr. Mike Melton and Bro. Don Campbell officiating.

Burial was at the Maple Cemetery in Caruthersville with John W. German Funeral Home of Hayti in charge.

Pallbearers were Terry Dill, Gary Hayes, Victor Sample, Bobby Khourie, Billy Brown and Ray Cook.

Honorary pallbearers were Eddie Brooks, Larry Cline, Oather Brown, Lee Dill, Paul Glass, Wayne Keller, James Klinkhardt, Robert O. Pierce, Les Sides, Mike Sides, John L. Yarbro, Jr., Isaiah West, Tim Roberts and Billy Beegle.
