Veronica was born in Lithuania to Andrew Vaitkunas and Ona Keturakis. At some point, she moved to Blantyre, Scotland. In 1901, she was living in Blantyre with her sister Katrina Vaitkunas Kaminchaitis and her first husband.

In May 1909, Veronica traveled on the Furnessia with her widowed sister, Katrina, and her 2 children Pauline and Andrew. The family settled in Scranton, PA.

On 28 Jan 1913, Veronica married her first husband, John Barkauskas. Her father had to approve her marriage as she was a minor so that points to her being born 1893 or earlier.

Veronica and her John had 5 children, John, Ona, Albert, Alphonse and Clemens. Her husband John Barkauskas, died in 1942 of pulmonary tuberculosis. Jonas Kudirka was her second husband.

In Memoriam
"My Aunt Veronica Barkauskas Kudirka"
April 13, 1894 to August 10, 1984
(written by Kitty West; copied by Sandra Koehler Lee)

My Aunt Veronica was "Aunt Veronica" to many others who were not even r elated to her! She traveled far to this New Land -- learned many new wa ys -- and conquered the language -- but never let go of the old. She ch erished her memories and often said she could write a book of all she h ad heard, seen and done.

She was blessed with one girl and four boys. Her home welcomed friends a nd neighbors as a gathering place -- there was always room for one more ! And her pleasure was evident when all were enjoying good coffee, good f ood, good fellowship and fun.

She worked hard all her life -- and was strong-willed to the end when God called her at 90 years.

She would say, "Unexpected company must take Pot Luck," one of her favo rite sayings. Another was "God's blessings be with you." May God's bles sings and peace be with her and a hundredfold now when her time has com e. He has called her and she has answered, "Here I am, Lord!"
Niece, Kitty West
