Born in Pittsfield on Sep 22, 1929, son of the late Walter V. and Albena Merriam Messer, he was a graduate of Pittsfield High School. He served in the Air Force from 1946 to 1950. Mr. Messer was a self-employed contractor for many years, retiring in 1987. He and his wife, the former Donna L. Hall Andrew, would have celebrated their sixth wedding anniversary on May 19. Besides his wife, he leaves his former wife, Gloria Gaviorno Messer of windsor; six sons, Donald F. Messer Jr. of Windsor, Robert A. Messer and Allen Laurent, both of Pittsfield, Alexander R. Messer and Joseph M. Messer, both of Cheshire, and Peter P. Messer of West Palm Beach, FL.; a daughter, Mrs. Gloria J. Williams of Pittsfield; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Debbie Newell and Mrs. Michelle Pettograsso, both of Pittsfield; three stepsons, Jeffrey Andrew and Lucien Laurent Jr., both of Pittsfield, and Lawrence Laurent Sr. of Worcester; two brothers, Walter Messer of Pennsylvania and Robert Messer of Pittsfield; two sisters, Mrs. Betty Lyons and Mrs. Albena messer, both of Pittsfield; 22 grandchildren, and six great - grandchildren. His longtime companion, Barbara Ann Tubbs Laurent, died in 1992. jar END:
