He was born June 05, 1921, in Pittsfield, the son of Walter V. and Albena Merriam Messer, and attended Pittsfield schools. A World War II Army veteran, he served in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. He had lived in Yonkers, NY., and in California for 25 years before moving back to Pittsfield in 1983. Mr. Messer worked as a roofer for roofing contractors in Pittsfield, New York and California for 45 years and retired in 1984. He leaves four sons, William Messer of Albany, NY., and Timothy Messer, Thomas Messer and Robert A. Messer, all of Yonkers; five brothers, Walter F., Robert A., Donald F. and Raymond Messer, all of Pittsfield, and Gerald L. Messer of Sacramento, CA., and three sisters, Mrs. Stanley Maska of Davis, CA., Mrs. Edmund Lyon of Pittsfield and Mrs. Albina Howe of North Adams. jar END:
