Tribute of Respect.
This Honorable Court having adjourned over for one day upon the 22d inst., as a tribute of respect for John F. Smith, Esq., deceased, late a member of this bar, and his Honor the presiding judge having appointed the undersigned to draft suitable resolutions to be inscribed upon the minutes of this Court as a permanent memorial of the lamented deceased, they respectfully submit the following preamble and resolutions: Whereas, the Almighty in his inscrutable providence has removed from our midst our friend and brother John F. Smith; and Whereas, it is the desire of this court, its officers, and the members of this bar to express their esteem for the excellent virtues of the deceased, and their deep sympathy with the members of his family in their affliction ; Therefore be it resolved, that in his death society has lost one of its most worthy members, whose life-long example of probity and piety has been of inestimable value to all who came in contact with him; that our profession has lost a conscientious, upright and most honorable member; and this Court tenders to the family of the deceased its respectful and unaffected sympathy for the irreparable loss which has befallen them. Resolved, further, that a copy of these proceedings be furnished by the clerk to the family of our deceased brother, and to the local press for publication.

OBITUARY.
Died, at his residence in Grand Coteau, Oct. 11th, 1883, JOHN F. SMITH,
aged 67 years and 5 months.
Scarce ten months have elapsed since we consigned to their last resting place the remains of the loving companion of his old age, ere we are called upon to perform the same sad duty to the worthy subject of this notice.
A few days since he was among us enjoying apparent good health, but death gives short warning.
After a brief illness of ten days, he died a death characteristic of the life he had spent, peaceful and happy, surrounded by his devoted children, kind friends, and solaced by all the comforts of religion.
A loving father, a sincere friend, a true Christian, an honest and upright citizen, he leaves a void difficult to be filled.
A FRIEND.
