Maude Anna (Gilchrist) Sump was born March 30, 1883, at Miltonvale, Kansas. She passed away June 29, 1963, at Clay Center, Kansas.
Albert, a prosperous young man, started a good business in May Day, Kansas, as an implement dealer and blacksmith.
Maude moved to May Day in 1902 with her parents Mr. & Mrs. M. B. Gilchrist and helped them operate the May Day store.
November 2, 1904, Albert and Maude were married in the hall over the Gilchrist store. Otto Sump acted as best man and Miss Margaret Lowry as bridemaid. Forty guests were present.
Almost five years later they rented the H. E. Wetzig farm near Winkler, Kansas, and started farming. In 1914 they purchased a piece of land in Clay County, Kansas, near Green. They also purchased the house at May Day where they first started housekeeping and took it down board by board. This was hauled up to the new place by team and wagon and was rebuilt almost as the original. The new home was built and the sod was broken. They made that their home until 1958. Their remaining years were spent in Clay Center, Kansas.
Six children were born to Albert and Maude: Cecil, Maurine, Norman, Virginia, Georgia, and Grant.
