Frances Elvira Strayer Hughes was born October 10, 1901 to Cyrus Henry Strayer and Margaret Ellen Newswonder Strayer. She passed away at the Franklin county Memorial Hospital on December 20, 1977 at the age of 76 years, following a short illness.
On November 29, 1919 Frances was united in marriage to Earl Clyde Hughes and to this union eleven children were born. (Obit obtained by Carol Strayer)
Frances devoted her life to being a homemaker and a mother She made her home in Franklin County all her life and was a member of the Franklin VFW Auxiliary.
Preceding her in death was her loving husband Earl on May 27, 1977; one son Leroy in infancy in 1920; and two daughters, Doris at the age of 31 and Valjean at the age of 11.
Frances is survived six daughters and sons-in-law, Viola & Gordon Kershner, Franklin; Erla & Sid Bradshaw, Franklin; Nette & Earl Tolle, Litchfield; Wilma & Jim Deloa, Omaha; Kay & Alden Bunger, Upland and Margaret and Charlie Clark, Kearney; two sons and daughters-in-law, Don & Mardel Hughes, Kearney and Richard & Sharon Hughes, Kansas City, Kansas; 25 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; one brother Charles Strayer, Longview, Washington; three sisters, Nettie Eaton, Salida, Colorado; Lola Laurent, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Ethel James of Cody, Wyoming, besides many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Friday, December 23, 1977 at 2:00 pm. at the Hutchins Funeral Home, Franklin, with Rev. Norman Schafer officiating.
Music was provided by Mrs. Alma Huisman, organist and a duet by Mrs. Minnie Kolb and Tim Kolb.
Casket bearers were Robert Brophy, Gerald Kershner, Alan Bunger, Randy Eddy, Mark Bradshaw, and Earl Lyon. Honorary casket bearers were Archie Platt, Lloyd Bradshaw, Don Bradshaw, and Dean Loschen. Interment was in the Greenwood Cemetery, Franklin.
