Aged 29.
Son of Owen Thomas and Margaret Hughes, of 9 Boston Street, Holyhead.
He had worked for the City of Dublin Steam Packet Company for over 8 years at the time of his death.
He was working on board the Leinster, when it was sunk by torpedoes from a German Submarine, whilst enroute from Kingstown [now Dun Laoghaire] to Holyhead, Wales.
He survived and was rescued, but he was severely injured. He was brought to the King George V Hospital [a military hospital, now St. Bricin's Military Hospital at Blackhorse Avenue, -part of McKee Barracks] where he subsequently died.

Owen Hughes, aged 31, a bachelor, a Ship's Cook in SS Leinster, died on 17 October 1918, at King George V Hospital, Dublin.
The cause of death was Shock, 7 days, Burns, certified.
The informant of his death was a member of the hospital staff, who registered it on 18 October 1918.
