Born Thursday, August 16, 1923, in Love, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Andy and Macy (Goode) Arnold.
Mrs. Simmons was a proud member of Mt. Vernon Church of the Brethren, and held her membership there for than 75 years. After 24 years of service, Mrs. Simmons retired from Morton's.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Simmons was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.
Mrs. Simmons is survived by two sons, Delmas Coffey and his wife, Betsy of Fishersville and Ronald Coffey of Lynchburg; four daughters, Hilda Fisher and her husband Ronnie of Waynesboro, Nancy Baker and her husband Don of Waynesboro, Linda Raines and her husband Wayne of Crimora, and Diane Simmons of Stuarts Draft; seven grandchildren, Renea Moore, Troy Fisher, Tahnee Knicely, Penny Martin, Tony Coffey, Stacy Baker, and Towanna Thompson; 10 great grandchildren; and one special niece, Jane Desper.
A funeral service will be held 9 a.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2008, in Mt. Vernon Church of the Brethren, 90 Mount Vernon Road, Waynesboro, with Pastor Garold Senger Jr., officiating.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Participating as pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7until 8 p.m. Monday, June 9, 2008, in the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes.
