George and his new bride lived in Lewis Co. Virginia the early years of their marriage, where he was employed as a merchant. They moved to Rochelle, Illinois in 1854, where they resided until 1881. They moved to Huron, So. Dakota and settled upon a homestead four miles south of the city. He resided upon his farm the required time, then his family joined him in the spring of 1882 in the comfortable home he had built on the corner of Second and Illinois streets. George farmed for a living. George and Anna were the parents of six children: Rosanna Catherine, Ella V., Georgia Ann, Charles Benton & Eva Maria Ambrose.
