Charles B. Ambrose Passes Away From this Life After a Brief Illness.
The Community Startled by the Announcement, and the Entire City Mourns.
The Funeral Services Will be Conducted From the Church Wednesday Afternoon.
The King of Death has again made his demands upon the community and taken from us one of our young men, robbed a wife of a loving husband, left two beautiful little girls fatherless, and deprived the community of one of its most successful and esteemed business men.
Charles B. Ambrose is dead! That was the morning greeting which carried grief into the hearts of his friends when the enquired how he was this morning. So sudden, - so unexpected -- and from an earthly standpoint, so cruel, that it seemed impossible. But it is true and he was gone. Peacefully his soul passed away and entered into the Kingdom of God.
Charles Ambrose came to Huron in 1880 and for many years was the trusted clerk of the large grocery house of T. M. Jeffries & Co. In 1885 he was made chief clerk in the United States land office which position he held until 1890, when he purchased the interest of T.M. Jeffries in the grocery business of T.M. Jeffries & Co. Since that time the firm has been known as Jeffries & Ambrose and they have conducted the largest retail grocery business in Central Dakota.
The deceased was born in White Rock, Ogle county, Illinois; on the 24th day of June 1857. He was married in this city in October 1889, to Miss Cora M. Shober. He was a member of the Huron camp of Modern Woodmen of America, a Knight of Pythias, and a member of the B.P.O. Elks, Huron lodge. To all of these civic societies his death comes like that of a brother. He was a member of the Presbyterian church of this city and died firm in the faith of Jesus Christ and a belief in the life to come.
The funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, from the church. The entire community extends its sympathy to the grief stricken wife and family. His death is a great loss to the community and all can but feel that a strong man has gone from us, and a promising life ended. He lived a good life, he fought a good fight, and let us all hope that we shall meet him in the dawn of the Eternal morning where the Angel of death enters not.

Huron, S.D., Dec. 19 - Special: The community was shocked this morning by the announcement of the death of Charles C. Ambrose, which occurred at his residence about 9 o'clock Sunday night. He had been suffering from pneumonia for several days but his condition was not deemed serious till Saturday. Mr. Ambrose was junior member of the well known grocery firm of Jeffries & Ambrose, and was favorably known in commercial circles throughout the state. For several years he was chief clerk in the government land office here and was one of the best posted men on land matters in this state. He leaves a wife and two daughters, besides a widowed mother, a sister, Mrs. John Cain of Salt Lake Tribune and Mrs. Baxter of Rochelle, IL.

Huron, S.D., Dec 22. - The funeral of the late Charles B. Ambrose took place yesterday afternoon and was very largely attended. The Elks and Modern Woodmen organizations were present in large numbers. Many from abroad were also present. Following a brief service for the family and immediate friends at the residence the remains were taken to the Presbyterian church where a public service was held. Rev. A.R. Vander Las delivered the sermon and the services throughout were deeply impressive. Business houses were closed during the time of the service The pall bearers were D.B. Jeffries, G.S. Hutchinson, J.A. Cleaver, A.F. Robinson, William Walbel and C.F. Koepp, interment in Riverside Cemetery.
