Eddie Linton "Lit" Cummings, 62, of 34 Vermont Avenue, West Asheville, North Carolina, died Thursday, September 17, 1981 in the Asheville VA Medical Center after a short illness.
A native of Sandersville, Georgia, Eddie Linton "Lit" Cummings (1919-1981) was the son of William Chris Cummings (1881-1955) & Mamie Pauline Tooks Cummings (1885-1954). He was the husband of Vera Lee Metcalf Cummings (1920-1982). He was the father of three children - Polly Ann Cummings McMahan (1940-2013) & Eddie Linton Cummings Jr. (1942-2019) & William Richard Cummings Sr. (1949-2020). He had been a resident of Asheville area for 45 years.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War Two and a member of Hyatt VFW Post 891. He retired from Eli Whitt Company.
He was also survived by two bothers, Clinton Cummings of Toomsboro, Georgia and W.S. Cummings of Milledgeville, Georgia; three sisters, Stella Robinson and Pauline Miller of Sandersville, Georgia and Margaret Prosser of Wrens, Georgia; two half sisters, Wynelle Davis of Tennille, Georgia and Hattie Wilson of Lakeland, Florida; a half brother, Clement Ivey of Lakeland, Florida; and five grandchildren.
Funeral Services were held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, September 19, 1981 at Grace Baptist Church of which he was a member. The Rev. C.R. Pierce Jr. officiated. Penland & Sons Funeral Home of Asheville handled arrangements. Burial was in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
