Bolt of Lightning Takes Life Of Gerrit Hulstein
Death came instantly to Gerrit Hulstein, when he was struck by lightning in his farm yard north of Alton after walking home from the field during a severe local shower. He was found by one of the family.
Mr. Hulstein was born at Sioux Center, March 5, 1892 and passed away Friday afternoon, March 29th at the age of 54 years and 24 days.
He was married on January 17, 1913 at Carmel to Tillie Wichers, who survives him, with 6 sons: Steve of Sheldon; Fred, William and Marion of Hospers; Gerrit and Richard Hulstein of Hynes, Calif.; and 2 daughters: Mrs. J. Bartels of Bellflower, Calif, and Grace at home.
His aged father Mr. Steven Hulstein of Sioux Center also survives him, also a sister and 8 half brothers and sisters.
Funeral services were held at 1 o'clock at the home and 1:30 at the First Ref. church of Hospers, Rev. G. Docter officiating. Interment was in the Hospers Cemetery.
