Son of Jonas Beecher Blydenburgh and Cecelia Ann Darling, husband of Julia Ann Howell, the daughter of George C. Howell and Tryphenia Nichols, whom he married on November 2, 1855, in Suffolk County, New York, and father of Thirza J. (married Daniel Roe L'Hommedieu), George Beecher, John Herbert, Ebenezer S., Mary, Julia A., Julius Morton and Anna Frances Blydenburgh (married Virgil R. Case).

In 1880, Lyman Blydenburgh, aged 46, a boatman, was living in Stony Brook, the 1880 census taken on the 1st day of June, 1880, with his wife, Julia A. Blydenburgh, aged 45, and children, Anna F. Blydenburgh, aged 12, Julius M. Blydenburgh, aged 14, Ebenezer S. Blydenburgh, aged 12, and John H. Blydenburgh, aged 8.
