SOUTH PORTLAND -- Gladys E. (Robinson) Lynch, 87, of Cleveland Circle died Nov. 19, 2012 at her home after a lengthy illness. Gladys was born May 3, 1925 in Wilton, N.H. to Peter and Mary Balcom and educated in the local schools.
Gladys held the position of Executive Secretary at Northeast Hearing and Speech for 18 1/2 years before retiring in 1992.
Along with her husband Bill, she was an active member of the VFW Post 832 in South Portland for a number of years. Gladys was always giving of herself with volunteering for the many functions held there. She was proud to have been past President of the VFW Post 832 Ladies Auxiliary and MCOA #27.
She was an avid reader and sports fan, always cheering for her New England teams, the Red Sox, Bruins and Patriots.
Gladys was predeceased by her husband William E. Lynch in 2003; son, Timothy Hubley; and brothers, Robert E. Robinson and William A. Thompson. She is survived by five sons, Thomas Hubley of Buxton, David Hubley and wife Gretchen of Buxton, Mark Lynch of Portland, Patrick H. Lynch and wife Patricia of South Portland, William R. Lynch and wife Stella of San Diego, Calif., two daughters, Sharon McLeod and husband Pat of Cairo, Egypt, Joanne Malia and husband Peter of Portland; and eight grandchildren, Maura Malia, Erin Melito, Patrick Malia, Timothy Hubley, Megan Lynch, Scott Lynch, Rebecca McCraw, and LeRoy Adams. (Portland Press Herald 11/26/2012)
The following from Mary Ann #47659959: Gladys' mother was Mary Thompson (Bishop, Robinson) Balcom (FAG #85296456). Gladys might not have been born to Mary and Peter Balcom (though she probably knew Peter Balcom as her father; he married Mary in 1930)--her father (from the 1926 town report of Wilton NH) was Fred Robinson (Mary's second husband). Gladys' mother was married 3 times, and divorced twice (see her FAG bio). Mary is buried with Gladys' son Timothy and with Gladys' grandparents (Mary's parents). I have linked Timothy (who died in a plane crash in Illinois in 1961) to Gladys.
