Rites Held for Farmer Killed Under Tractor
Edina, Mo., Jul. 30. — Funeral services for John Anthony, 73, of six miles north of Hurdland, who was accidentally killed early Saturday afternoon when he was pinned beneath a tractor, were held this afternoon at 2 in the Hudson-Rimer funeral chapel with the Rev. Allen Vancil officiating. Burial was in the Knox City cemetery.
When Mr. Anthony did not return home Saturday night at 6, neighbors went lo look for him and found him under the tractor, which he had been using to pull logs. Death apparently was instant.
Mr. Anthony was born near Gibbs March 10, 1889, a son of Jake and Martha Anthony. He formerly lived in Kirksville. He was first married to Janie Parish in July, 1910. His second marriage was Aug. 26, 1923 [sic], to Ethel Davis, who died Oct. 10, 1953 He was married April 7, 1954, to Lula Petty, who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters by his first marriage, Mrs. Alta Clark of California and Mrs. Lorina Ross, of Kansas City; a son by his first marriage, Harold Anthony of California; three daughters by his second marriage, Mrs. Otto (Connie) Burr of Bleton, Mrs. Richard (Clarabel) Pulse of Canton and Mr. James Robert (Betty) Shannon of Williamstown; three sons by his second marriage, Oran and Ernest Anthony of Kansas City and Merle L. Anthony of California; a stepson, Donald Selegrath of Pennsylvania; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Luella Valentine of Kirksville; a brother, Fred of California; three sisters Mrs. Lorie Welch of Omaha, Mrs. Viola Hart of Kirksville and Emma, and grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Loran Anthony a twin of Oran, and nine brothers and sisters.
