it is our sad duty to chronicle the death of Thomas Galligan which occurred Wednesday morning. Thomas Galligan was born in Minersville, Penn., Nov. 9, 1849 and came to Wisconsin with his parents when a small child. He being the eldest of a large family of children, it became his duty to help his parents over the rough places with which the pioneers of Wisconsin had to contend.
He was married to Mary A. Harrington of Shullsburg, Wis. About three years ago he began to complain. The cause of his illness was enlargement of the liver which brot about loss of blood and low vitality. The attending physician rendered untiring and skillful service, who with the faithful wife and children, and kind neighbors, watched, worked, hoped and prayed for his recovery; and thot for awhile they would succeed: but about two weeks ago complications set in and all became aware they would have to yield to Him who doeth all things well. Thru the long sickness he was never heard to commplain but ever ready to say Thy will be done. On account of failing health, he sold his farm last fall, and intended to move to Fort Atkinson with his famil; but at the time he was to give possession he was unable to go and so moved across the road from his late home to the old Galligan home, where he had spent many happy days with his parents, brothers and sisters there, after all that could be done for him, on Wednesday morning, May 27, at three o'clock, as day dawned, amid family and friends, he closed his eyes to this world to meet his Heavenly Father whose name he loved while on earth.
He leaves to mourn his loss a wife and three children, James, Emma and Eva and one brother and sister, John of Menomonie Falls and Mrs. Hugh McGuire of Red Rock, besides a large circle of friends. He was a charter member of the Catholic Knights Branch 44 of Darlington. His funeral was held from the Catholic church at Darlington at ten o'clock Friday and the large attendance at the funeral showed the respect and esteem in which he was held by his friends.
