Mrs. Lula Smith, 90, of 210 McNear Street in Campbellsville, daughter of the late Mr. William Dudgeon and Mrs. Betty Wood Dudgeon, was born in Taylor County, July 5, 1889. She died at 9:25 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 14, 1979 at the Medco Nursing Home where she had been a patient for the past six months. She had professed faith in Christ and was a member of the Robinson Creek Baptist Church. She united in marriage to Mr. George H. Smith, June 8, 1910. He preceded her in death March 12, 1951. She was also preceded in death by one step-daughter: Mrs. Mary Antle on December 1, 1963. Mrs. Smith is survived by five sons and three daughters: Mr. Joe Smith, Mr. Garnett Smith, Mr. George Smith, Mr. Earl Smith, and Mrs. Evelyn Abell, all of Campbellsville, Mr. Robert Smith of Campbellsville, Route 1, Mrs. Mildred Holmes of Campbellsville, Route 4, and Mrs. Mable Lee of Campbellsville, Route 5; 24 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; one brother and two sisters: Mr. Ellis Dudgeon of Britt, Iowa, Mrs. Lillie Johns of Pontiac, Illinois, and Mrs. Mattie Johns of Saunemin, Illinois; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m., Friday, Nov. 16, at the Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Chapel by Rev. Sam Sowders and Rev. Don Gowin. Burial was in Green River Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery. Funeral services for Mr. George Hartwell Smith, 79, were held Wednesday, March 14 from the Campbellsville Baptist Church with the Rev. A. F. Conner and Rev. Melvin Johnson in charge. Burial was in the Buchanan Cemetery, R.R. #5. The pallbearers were Chester Kearney, Floyd Dickens, Harry Richerson, Coy Holmes, Albert Shofner, and Russell Cook. The honorary bearers were: Albert Skaggs, Turner Wayne, Elmer Perkins, Claude Antle, Haskel Rainwater, Howard Lewis, Harrison Perkins, and Bob Dudgeon. Mr. Smith, son of Joseph Smith and Louisa Berry Smith, was born April 19, 1872 in Adair County and died at his home on Wickliffe Ave., Monday, March 12. He was united in marriage to Belle Dudgeon who preceded him in death in 1906. He later married Lula Thomas. Besides his wife, he is survived by nine children: Mrs. Mary Antle, Mrs. Mable Lee, Robert William Smith, Willie Joe Smith, and George Smith, R. R. #5, of this city; Mrs. Evelyn DeWitt, R. R. #4; Garnett Smith, Mac; Earl Thomas Smith, Louisville; and Mrs. Mildred Holmes of this city. He is also survived by one brother and one sister: Miss Ella Smith and Aro Smith, R. R. #5. Fourteen grandchildren also survive.
