Obituary

Arnold L. (Tooter) Hodge, of Blacksburg, passed away January 3, 2013, at the age of 80 at Montgomery Lewis-Gale Hospital after a two-year struggle with medical complications. He was born January 13, 1932, and was the last surviving son of W. H. and Bertie Sartin Hodge. He was preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters; a son-in-law, Ken Barnett; and one great-grandson, Austin Lovern. He leaves behind his loving wife of 60 years, Dorothy Cromer Hodge; his daughter and son-in-law, Jewell and Larry Moore and his son, Richard Hodge. Also surviving are two grandsons, Justin and Lisa Hodge and Adam Hodge; and a granddaughter, Beth Barnett; six-great grandchildren, Carson and Cole Lovern, Madison and McKenzie, Adam and Aden Hodge; and former daughter-in-law, Jenean Meadows and husband, Danny. He is also survived by one sister and brother-in-law; Patricia and John Sweeney; sister-in-law, Hazel K. Hodge. He was a friend and uncle to Wayne Fenton and Mary Kay Carroway, Sharon Fenton and John Duncan, Larry Henry, Tony and Diane Fenton, Terry and Shawnee Fenton, Linda and Danny Sweeney, Ron and Darlene Hodge, Gene and Dottie Hodge as well as a large number of nieces and nephews.
He served proudly in the Korean War from 1952-1954. He was a businessman in Blacksburg for over 50 years. He operated Hardies, Inc., and Lake Terrace Motel and made numerous friends and drew respect from the community. The family extends many thanks to his caregivers over the past two years especially Dr. Lucian Robinson and nurse, Sharon Cox, and the dialysis center. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him and memories of him will be cherished.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, January 6, 2013, in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Ron Hodge, Pastor Tony Johnston, and Pastor Terry Hodge officiating. Interment will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg. Flowers would be appreciated or memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice . Friends may call any time after noon Saturday and the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday evening at the McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Drive, SW, Blacksburg.
