Mary Lois Hodge graduated from Blacksburg High School Blacksburg,Virginia: Radford Collage, Radford,Virginia.
Mary was from a large family and was from this area.
At the age of "Sweet Sixteen" Mary entered a national beauty contest and won the title of "Miss Roses 5 & !0".
She met William Robert Latta while they were both attending collages in the area.
Mary started teaching at Merrimac School in the Blacksburg, Va. area. She then came to Hampton, Va., married William Robert (Bob) Latta at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Hampton, VA. and then became a first grade teacher at Emmanuel Lutheran School.
Mary was highly thought of at the schools she taught at.
The Lutheran School was a private school, here she began to teach children of children she had taught. When she had to medically retire she was the principal of Emmanuel Lutheran School, as well as a first grade teacher there. A picture of her was hung in the school as a memorial to a dedicated person to children.
Upon her death, flowers were sent from the Merrimac School of long ago.
She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Hampton, Va.
