James Leighton Brown, 87, of Greenville, SC, died Saturday, November 3, 2012.

Born in Hartwell, GA, he was the son of the late William Leighton Brown and Wilma (Skelton) Brown.

He was a member of First Baptist, Greenville, and the Fellowship Sunday School Class.

Mr. Brown was a graduate of Clemson University, Class of 1948 and served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was an executive with Milliken and Co. for more than 39 years, retiring in 1987.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Mary Alice (Hodges) Brown and his second wife, Lucille (Watson) Brown.

Surviving are a daughter, Alice Brown Cooper and her husband, Michael of Spartanburg; a son, William Leighton Brown and his wife, Faye of Greer; two grandsons, Bradley Cooper and his wife, Alethea, and Davis Cooper of Spartanburg. Also surviving are two step-daughters, Diana Parks Gibson of Piedmont, and Nancy Parks of Edneyville, NC; and two step-grandsons, Robert and Jonathan Gibson of Piedmont, SC.

Services were conducted Tuesday, November 6, 2012, at 3:00 pm at The Mackey Mortuary with the Reverend Dr. Baxter M. Wynn officiating.

The family received friends one hour prior to the service at the mortuary.

Members of the Fellowship Sunday School Class served as Honorary Escort. Interment to follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials could be given to First Baptist, Greenville or a charity of one's choice .
