CLYDE BURNELL METCALF

MORGANTON - Clyde Burnell "Paw" Metcalf. 92, of Harbison Drive in the Oak Hill community, died Sunday, October 14, 2001, at Grace Heights following a period of declining health.

He was born April 5, 1909, in Tullahoma, Tennessee, and was raised in Asheville. He was a son of the late John Franklin Metcalf and Georgianna Ferguson Metcalf. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters.

He was a member of El Bethel Baptist durch and a former homebuilder. Mr. Metcalf volunteered at Western Carolina Center as a foster grandparent.

He is survived by his sons, Ronald Metcalf and Meryl Clyde Metcalf, both of Morganton; a sister-in-law, Ruby Metcalf of Woodruff, South Carolina; eight grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

The funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at El Bethel Baptist Church with the Revs. Ron Cooper, Jimmy Lambert and David Bean officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Sossoman Funeral Home.
