Shriver, Gary G.


Gary G. Shriver, Appleton, age 63, passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2005, at his home under the auspices of Theda Care At Home Hospice. He was born February 15, 1942, in Appleton, the son of the late Ira and Anna (Smits) Shriver. He was a high school graduate of St. Mary's in Menasha, earned his undergraduate degree at St. Norbert College, and received his master's degree from the University of Wyoming at Laramie. Gary was united in marriage with Margaret Kristoff on August 30, 1969. Gary was a freelance journalist who wrote for the Appleton Post-Crescent, The Current and other newspapers throughout his career. He was a member of the National Space Society as well as a parishioner at St. Mary Catholic Church, Appleton.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret; a son, Zachary (Megan) Shriver, Cambridge, Mass; three daughters: Leah (Bill) Meyerhoff, Jessica Shriver (Brien Erwine), and Melissa Shriver, all of Milwaukee; and his grandchildren: Ian, Madeline, Hunter and Griffin.
The memorial mass for Gary will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 2, 2005, at ST. MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 312 South State Street, with Father Michael O'Rourke as celebrant. The family will receive friends at the church Friday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of mass. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Gary's name may be sent to the National Space Society (Gary's passion), 1620 I St., NW, Suite 615, Washington, DC, 20006, or to St. Mary Catholic Church, 312 S. State St., Appleton, 54911
