Amor's surname was spelled "Baine" in his death certificate (City of Philadelphia) but "Bain" in his obituary (Philadelphia Inquirer). Both reported he was buried at Mount Moriah Cemetery.

The son of William & Mary Bane or Bain, in 1850 he was living with his family in Sadsbury Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and is in that census as "Emmer." He is not found in the 1860 census but is in the 1863 draft registration as a carpenter living in Paradise Township, Lancaster County. He stood 6' 0" tall and had dark hair and hazel eyes.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted at the stated age of twenty-four in Paradise Township October 1, 1861, and mustered into federal service that day in Philadelphia as a private with Co. D, 2nd Pennsylvania Cavalry (59th Pennsylvania). In May 1863, he was detached to duty doing "carpenter jobs" but deserted sometime in June 1863. His military records sometimes spell his surname "Bain."
