WARREN -- Services for John Charles Gouldthorpe, 78, of 2473 North Road N.E., will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Carl W. Hall Funeral Home, where friends may call an hour before. Burial will be at Crown Hill Burial Park.

Mr. Gouldthorpe died Friday at 12:45 a.m. in St. Joseph Riverside Hospital's coronary care unit. He had been in failing health since 1989.

He was born Jun 17, 1913, in Warren, a son of Fred W. and Emma F. Clark Gouldthorpe.

Mr. Gouldthorpe was a graduate of Warren G. Harding High School. A drummer, he had his own five-piece band that played at the Airdrome Nite Club in Warren. He also played with the Bill Ost Band at the Elms Ballroom and Idora Park Ballroom, with Don Schatzel's Band and Hank Suchanek's Band, and he had toured the United States, especially Texas, with various bands.

He worked for Hughes Music, where he taught drums, repaired drums and played drums with Al Hughes on the organ at many functions.

He was a life member of Warren Federation of Musicians Local 118.

Mr. Gouldthorpe also enjoyed woodworking and sign painting.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Luanne Waha of Conneaut; one sister, Mrs. Grace Lucille Reynolds of Tonto Basin, Ariz.; and five grandchildren.
