Vieno H. Lyons

Vieno H. Lyons, age 83, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan passed away Monday afternoon, March 28, 2011 at War Memorial Hospital's Long Term Care Unit.
Vieno was born on June 26, 1927 in Kinross, Michigan, the daughter of the late Valentine and Katrina (Tulppo) Ahola. Vieno attended Kinross school through the 6th grade, and Rudyard School during Junior High and High School graduating in 1945. Vieno lived with Rheumatoid Arthritis for almost 70 years. After graduating from high school she went to California where she worked in a drug store. After accepting Christ as her personal savior, she received a scholarship to a Methodist Christian College in Kansas City, Mo., where she attended for 2 years, studying religion and early elementary education.
On November 26, 1949, she married Stanley T. Lyons at the Central United Methodist Church in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan and together they operated Pinnacle Hobby Shop for over 43 years. She was a very kind hearted lady, who loved to help others. She enjoyed bird watching, and spending time at the senior citizen dinners and at the senior citizen's club house.
Over the years she was active in various organizations, Luther League, Wesleyan Service Guild, United Methodist Women, Stephen Ministries, Toastmasters International, Senior Citizens Club and served on the Dial A-Ride Advisory Committee. She was active in the Central United Methodist church for 55 years, especially working with the Methodist Women's groups, Sunday school and various committees and served as President of Central United Methodist Church Women's Society.
She lived her life with grace and dignity and was an inspiration to all who knew her.
Vieno is survived by a son; a daughter; four grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Vieno was preceded in death by her parents, her husband: Stanley T. Lyons (1972); a grandson: John Daniel Tubman; and twelve siblings: Aini, Julia, Marion, Lillian, Jennie, Nelma, Walter, William, Arthur, Urho, Impie, and Evelyn.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, April 1, 2011 at Central United Methodist Church with Pastor Paul Gruenberg officiating. Friends may call at the church from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at Pine Grove Cemetery later this spring. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to Central United Methodist Church in Vieno's name. Arrangements are being handled by C.S. Mulder Funeral Home.
