Genoveffa Albina was born on June 10, 1890 in Collecorvino, Italy. Her parents were Gaetano and Anna Saveria (nee Rongi) DiCamillo. She had brothers, Eugene and Nicholas and sisters Amalia and Aida.
She was 21 when she married Cesare Calandra, he was also 21, on Feb. 8, 1912 in Altoona, PA and had six children, two sons and four daughters listed above.
She was a robust woman about 5' 3" tall with brown hair & eyes. She was a great cook and won prizes for her crocheting. She made crocheted table cloths or bedspreads for her daughters, daughters-in-law and granddaughters.
She and Chet had been married 50 years when he died on Aug. 20, 1962 at the Altoona Hospital from lung cancer. They had been living at 5902 6th Ave. where she continued to live until she sold the house, then moved to a condo on Green Ave. and finally to a nursing home in Altoona.
She was a diabetic for over 50 years and was going to have a leg amputed when she died of complications on May 23, 1983. She and Chet are buried at Alto Rest Park in Hollidaysburg, PA.
Genoveffa had 16 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren and spoke a mixture of Italian and broken English all her life!
