6th person dies from Indiana State Fair stage collapse

Jennifer Haskell, 22, died today from injuries she received in Saturday's stage collapse at the Indiana State Fair.
Haskell, a senior at Ball State University, is the 6th person to die as a result of the collapse.
According to The Star Press of Muncie, Haskell was the best friend of Fort Wayne resident Alina BigJohny, who was killed Saturday when the stage collapsed in a wind gust before a Sugarland concert.
INDIANAPOLIS — Jennifer Haskell, 22, a senior at Ball State University, died this morning from injuries suffered in Saturday's stage collapse at the Indiana State Fair.
Haskell is the sixth person to die as a result of the tragedy, when a stage setup collapsed on fans prior to a Sugarland concert. The event also killed Haskell's best friend, Alina Bigjohny, 23, who was hired in July to teach English at Wilson Middle School in Muncie.
Haskell's uncle, Mike Whited, released the following statement following Haskell's death this morning at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, where Haskell was recently listed in critical condition with severe head injuries.
"After a long courageous battle, Jenny Haskell died at 8:15 this morning from her injuries sustained from the tragedy at the State Fair. Jenny's family would like to thank everyone for their support and prayers during this difficult time. Continued support and prayers for the remaining victims would be greatly appreciated."
Haskell, who lived in Muncie, was a graduate of Monroe Central Junior-Senior High School, where she was an honor-roll student and member of the school's basketball and softball teams.
A vigil was held Thursday evening in Haskell's honor at the Monroe Central softball diamond.
Haskell was entering her senior year at Ball State, where she was studying sports medicine. Whited said Haskell planned on becoming an athletic trainer.
Jenny's father, John Haskell of Muncie, Ind., and her mothers, Mary Haskell and Judy Oakerson, both of Parker City, Ind., issued the following joint statement through Ball State University: "After a long, courageous battle, Jenny Haskell died at 8:15 this morning from her injuries sustained from the tragedy at the State Fair. Jenny's family wouldlike to thank everyone for the support and prayers during this difficult time. Continued support and prayers for the remaining victims would be greatly appreciated."
The university also released this statement from President Jo Ann Gora: "The Ball State community is deeply saddened to learn of Jenny's passing. I extend to her mothers, father, family and friends my deepest sympathies. Jenny was a dedicated student both in and out of the classroom. As the semester begins, I ask that the campus and our visitors take a moment to appreciate her hard work to make campus beautiful as a student landscaper. She took deep pride in her contributions to the campus. And as a passionate Cardinal, she loved cheering for the women's basketball team. The Ball State family will continue to hold Jenny's family and friends and everyone affected by this tragedy in our thoughts and prayers."
