U.S. Congressman. Moving to St. Louis, Missouri, in 1848, he engaged in the manufacture of iron and became president of the St. Louis Hot Pressed Nut & Bolt Company, in 1867. Entering politics, he served in the Missouri State House of Representatives and was a member of the St. Louis Board of Water Commissioners, (1871-73). In 1873, he was elected as a Democrat to the Forty-third and Forty-fourth Congresses, serving until 1877. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he resumed his previous business interests in New Jersey, until his death.
