OBITUARY OF DALE LEROY BOSTOCK
Dale Leroy BOSTOCK, better known as Gramps to his grandchildren, passed away January 29, 2017 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction, Colorado. Never growing inpatient or worn out by the constant mayhem brought to his life by his children and grandchildren, Dale was a wonderful and cherished father and grandfather.
Dale lived a life focused on family and hard-work. Summer weekends meant he was packing the fifth wheel camper with fishing poles and sleeping bags. Camping and hunting were activities that brought Dale great joy, and he shared all his favorite spots with his family including Big Red Park, Yamcolo and Steamboat Lake.
He taught all of us kids to army crawl to the best fishing holes, and spent endless hours patiently untangling four fishing hooks. Quite often there would be 4 pairs of shoes on willow branches drying around a campfire while s’mores were being roasted.
Dale owned a Skiroule business so winter weekends were spent snowmobiling with family and friends. The grandkids spent hours and hours riding the Skiroule snowmobiles around the yard and potato patch until stuck and then gramps would wade up through the snow to dig them out so they would be up and riding again.
He was a man of adventure and didn’t blink an eye at the thought of spending Spring Break in the Oldsmobile with grandma and four grandkids visiting national parks and teaching us how to hang spoons off our noses. He was a gifted storyteller and had a wonderful sense of humor. He once gave his wife, Barbara, binoculars for her birthday only to receive TV trays from her on his birthday.
He was a talented mechanic and artist with many family houses being adorned with one of his whirligigs. He even crafted a few pieces of jewelry out of spoon handles. Dale loved his family and was able to impact all of us with his knowledge and dedication.
Dale Leroy BOSTOCK, son of Delbert and Gladys (Fiscus) BOSTOCK, was born in New Raymer, Colorado. Later he moved with his family to McGregor, Colorado where they had a farm and ranch. He and his two sisters, Ardys and Avis, attended school in Steamboat Springs. During the school year they would stay with families in Steamboat.
Dale was the quarterback of the football team and a guard for the basketball team. He was proud of the fact that the basketball team was all conference and went to the state basketball tournament his senior year. Dale was student council president his senior year. Dale married his high school sweetheart, Barbara POULSON on August 28, 1947. They were married 61 years and through this union they raised a daughter, Janice, and a son, Gary.
Dale started his electrical career working for Walt Webber in Steamboat. Later he joined Yampa Valley Electric Association (YVEA) and worked there for over 30 years. During that time he became a licensed master electrician. He was also a volunteer fireman for 21 years in Steamboat Springs. He was a man well respected for his work ethic.
Dale is survived by his children, Janice (Tom) THOMPSON and Gary BOSTOCK; sisters, Ardys BROOKSHIRE and Avis BUTLER; grandchildren, Delbert (Shannon) BOSTOCK, Brenda (Chad) BROWN, Christina (Chris) KENT, and Lisa (Kris) LODWICK-HOGUE; great-grandchildren, Michael BOSTOCK, Lorren BOSTOCK and Aiden KENT. This summer the family will celebrate his life at one of his favorite hunting camps, Lizard Knob.
