Cathy Sue Abellanida of Stanton, California passed away on August 25, 2007. Services will be held on August 31, 2007 at 2:30 pm in the Westminster Memorial Park Main Chapel. Arrangements under the direction of Westminster Memorial park, 14801 Beach Blvd. Westminster, CA 92683. (714) 893-2421

Cathy was born on September 14, 1954 as Cathy Sue Allen in Washington County Tennessee. She was the daughter of Thomas and Bonita Allen and was the youngest of five children. She has two sisters, Lavern and Pat, and two brothers, Lowell and Jim. When she was only 14 years old her father passed away right before Christmas. She was a daddy's girl and took it very hard. When she was 36 her brother Jim passed away and then when she was 41 her mother Bonita passed on as well.

Cathy grew up on a farm in Tennessee where her family grew tobacco and the sell of the tobacco allowed her family to buy Christmas gifts or to payoff bills. She was the baby of the family and was treated like a princess and never had to do much farm work because of it. She loved to talk, talk and talk. Growing up as a kid her brother Lowell would call her sassy. She graduated in 1973 from Daniel Boone High School where she was in many beauty pageants and was voted Miss FFA Sweetheart. Her senior year of high school she got a job working in a factory for a couple years.

She decided after high school to take a 2 week vacation to California to visit her brother Lowell and sister Lavern. That is when she met a guy named Jim Jones, who worked for her brother Lowell in his grinding shop. They went out on a few dates just before she left to go back home to Tennessee. Jim and Cathy stayed in touch and she decided to move back to California 2 or 3 months later. Jim and Cathy dated 7 years and then was married on September 12, 1981. She then got a job at a bank called Mercury Savings where she met her best friend Laura who is now her sister-in-law. She was blessed with a son Ryan on December 4, 1983 and shortly after she was blessed again with twin daughters, my sister Rachel and I, on August 23, 1985.

Years later she was divorced from my father Jim but remained the best of friends until the day she died. After her divorce she got a job working as a Telecommunications Representative for a company called L.A. Cellular, which later turned into AT&T wireless and then Cingular. She worked there for about 12 to 13 years. She was known by many by the name of C.J. which was her initials at the time. On February 14, 1999 she married a man named Andrew Abellanida and gained a step daughter named Gabriella. Cathy got to travel to Hawaii a few times to meet Andrews family and she even got to bring her husband Andrew back to Tennessee to meet some of her family and to see where she grew up. She was later blessed with two grand kids, Ryan born in August of 2003 and Ethan in August of 2006.

In December of 2005 she was diagnosed with a stage 4 breast cancer, which was treatable but not curable. She had her first surgery in January of 2006 to remove her right breast. She went through many chemotherapy and radiation treatments to fight off this aggressive cancer but then was notified months later that the cancer had spread throughout her body. She never gave up hope and kept on fighting with a smile on her face. She was always happy and never let this cancer get her down. She was never ashamed to go places being bald headed and never wanted to wear a wig. She was proud of who she was and didn't care what people would think.

On Saturday August 18, 2007 She went to the hospital because she didn't feel good and had a high fever. The next day she was transferred over to the ICU where she fought for her life until the very end. On August 25. 2007 She went to Heaven to be with her Mom, Dad, and Brother Jim.

Cathy was an amazing person. She was so loving and caring and could make anyone laugh. She loved to play card games such as 31, Texas Hold'em, and Shanghai. One of her sayings while playing cards was "Well butter my buns and call me a biscuit". She touched many hearts and will forever live on in ours hearts and memories. She will now go on to be our special angel and watch over and protect us. She was the best Mother anyone could ever have and She will truely be missed.
