Benjamin Thomas Moor was the eldest son of James Calvin and Lavinia (Abshire) Moor and was named for his two grandfathers, Thomas Moor and Benjamin Abshire Sr. He moved to Jefferson Co., TX in the early 1840s with other members of his family and later settled in the area around Devers, where the rest of the Abshire/Abshier clan had earlier settled. He served as a private in Company F of Spaight's (11th) Battalion, Texas Volunteers, Confederate States Army. Moor was married on March 18, 1856 in Jefferson Co., TX to Miss Mary Elizabeth Moor. He was a well known farmer and rancher in the Devers area during the rest of his life.
