McDonald dies at age of 77
Mrs. Emma B. McDonald, resident of White Sands Retirement Home in La Jolla for the past 15 years died Monday, May 30. She was 77. Mrs. McDonald was born August 7, 1899 in Austin, Texas. Her great-grandfather was General Edward Burleson who fought in the Texas War for Independence against the Mexicans and served as Vice President of Texas when it became a Republic. Mrs. McDonald attended Sweet Briar College in Lynchburg, Virginia, Goucher College in Baltimore, Maryland and received her Bachelor's Degree from the University of California in 1922.

She was married in November 1923 and lived in Berkeley, Millbrae and San Francisco before coming to La Jolla in 1962. While living in Berkeley, Mrs. McDonald was a charter member of the Berkeley Women's City Club. She was a member of the Altar Guild of St. Paul's On the Highway Episcopal Church in Burlingame and served as President. She participated in Red Cross activities during World War II.

In San Francisco she served on the Altar Guild of Grace Cathedral and was on the Board of Directors of the Diocesan Altar Guild. She was elected to membership in the Century Club of California and served a term on its Board of Directors.

She belonged to Kappa Alpha Theta Alumna groups in various communities where she has lived. Mrs. McDonald is survived by her husband, Charles Slader McDonald; two daughters of Las Vegas, Nevada and Ontario, California; a son, Charles D. McDonald Jr. of Honolulu, Hawaii, two granddaughters and seven grandsons.
