In Memoriam
(By Narnie Harrison Bell)

The city of Temple mourns its loss in the passing away of Mrs. Ed Wynne in her home on North First Street at 3:10 p. m. June 1, 1915.

Mrs. Wynne was born in Rockdale, Texas, on August 1, 1864, and after completing a liberal college course, was a teacher for 13 years in the Rockdale Schools and afterward was for four years in the public schools of Temple, for two years principal of Vandiver school. As Miss Marie Rasberry she became identified with much of Temple’s progressive schoolwork, her influence deepening and broadening after her marriage to Mr. Ed Wynne of this city, until at the time of her death, there was not a woman in Temple whose loss would mean more to all that is best in the moral uplift of a town.

Since February 15, she had been confined to her room and for weeks before this time her gradually failing strength warned those who loved her most, that their Beloved – she who still kept the smiles on her lips, the cheer in her gentle voice, and tried her best to hide her suffering – was passing into the shadows in spite of love and care.

It will be hard indeed to fill her place in the Methodist Church, for as President of the Missionary Society, Vice-President of the Central Texas Conference, teacher of the Matrons’ Philathea class in Sunday School, her strong personality touched those about her, and infused into her associates, a desire for the best and highest things in life.

Some time ago in the organization of a Temple Civic League, Mrs. Wynne was elected President, and later, was given the same office in the founding of the Womans’ Study Club.

In all this work her clear insight, her power of original thought, her broad, exact information, her unfailing sympathy made her a leader who gave courage and cheer to all her followers. In spite of her usefulness in public work, she was a home-keeper, as was attested by the devotion of all member of her household and no woman more beautifully fulfilled the duties of wife and mother than did she.

Wise, yet tender; gentle, yet strong – her great heart was the home of every one a-weary and oppressed.

After the funeral, in the First Methodist Church yesterday afternoon at four o’clock, conducted by Rev. Knickerbocker, this brave, loving woman was laid to rest in the City cemetery.

Countless flowers were piled about the new-made grave as beautiful tributes from the many individuals and societies who held her dear.

How much she will be missed, how long be mourned, how vast the vacancy let by her passing, no word nor pen can tell.
