Hattie Abbott, 40-Year Resident Of Clarkston, Dies

Mrs. Hattie Mae "Frosty" Abbott, 82, widow of a contractor and resident of Clarkston since 1927, died of cancer at 8:25 last night at Clarkston Rest Haven, where she had been a patient about three months.

She was the widow of Rufus J. Abbott, a retired contractor who died in July 1962.

Her nickname "Frosty" was given because of her hair, which turned snow-white when she was a young woman.

She was born Hattie Mae Vandergriff on April 2, 1885, at Rutledge, Tenn., and later lived in Durant, Okla.

She married Abbott on Aug. 9, 1904. They lived in Wichita Falls, Tex., before moving to Clarkston.

She was a member of the Baptist Church.

Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. J. A. Cornish of Witchita Falls; Mrs. Andrew Swanson of Clarkston; Mrs. C. R. Mashburn of Woodburn, Ore.; and Mrs. Zella Mellrud of Spokane; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

A son, M. R. Abbott of Clarkston died May 16, 1966.
