The Idaho Post, Moscow, Idaho, May 25, 1915: "After a lingering illness of two years' duration, Mrs. S.T. Steelsmith, a well known and highly esteemed old lady of American ridge, was called by death Monday evening. Although the deceased had been under hospital care on several different occasions during her illness, her condition did not become critical until about three weeks ago, but since that time the decline has been very rapid. The cause of her death was pernicious anaemia. She became unconscious Sunday, and remained in this condition until the end, passing away quietly.
"Catherine A. Davis was born on the 27th day of October, 1852, in the County of Coschocton, state of Ohio, and died on the 17th of May, 1915, at Troy, Idaho, aged 62 years, six months and 20 days, and was one of a family of thirteen children, nine of whom are still living. At the age of two years she moved with her parents to Boone County, Iowa, making that her home for nearly 50 years, moving then to Latah County, Idaho in 1904, here she has made her home until the time of her death.
"On September 21, 1871, she was married to Samuel T. Steelsmith and to this union six children were born, five of whom are still living, Lida Ann dying in infancy. She children grew to maturity on the old home place near Ogden, Iowa, where the family resided for nearly thirty years, making a large circle of friends who will mourn Mrs. Steelsmith's loss as a highly esteemed friend and neighbor and whose sympathies go out to the bereaved family and relatives.
"At the age of 24 Mrs. Steelsmith was admitted into full membership of the Methodist Episcopal church, being baptised March 4, 1875.
"The deceased is survived by her husband, S.T. Steelsmith and five children, Clarence W., of Menomonie, Wis., C. Fredrick and J. Archie, of Rippey, Iowa, B. Franklin, of Troy, Idaho, and Mrs. Belle Patton, of Mica, Wn., who will mourn the loss of a loving wife and mother.
"The funeral service, which was held in the Methodist church at Bethel, was attended by a large concourse of friends who went to pay their last respects both at the church and at Bethel cemetery where the body was placed at rest. Rev. S.E. Powell preached the funeral. The floral donations were numerous and beautiful.

"From which none ever wake to weep.
"A calm and undisturbed repose,
"Unbroken by the last of foes."
