Son of Joshua Bard and Rebecca JAMES. Husband of Matilda Ellen Briggs.

Alfred A. Bard
A highly respected citizen died suddenly at his home in Germany Valley, Saturday evening, February 1st, after an illness of about twenty-four hours. Mr. Bard had worked on his saw mill on Friday and took seriously sick the same night. His death was due to gastritis. Deceased was aged 40 years, and was born and raised at Otelia, a son of Joshua and Rebecca Bard. Alfred A. Bard was married in 1882 to Miss Tillie Briggs, daughter of the late Wm. H. and Elizabeth Briggs, residing for many years in Shirley township. Since marriage, the deceased had followed farming, and two years ago purchased the old homestead farm, owned by the late John X. Lutz in Germany Valley. Mr. Bard was a good citizen, and an active Christian. He is survived by his wife and eight children: viz; LeRoy, Lorma, Ora, Jesse, Herman, Edna, Russel, and Marshal. There is one child dead. Deceased is also survived by his aged father and mother: Joshua Bard, aged 82, and his wife aged 80, together with the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. John Lewis of Elgin, John Shields of Otelia, Miles Bard of Rockhill, Mrs. J.0. Kenyon of Huntingdon, Mrs. Thos. McKinstrey of Ryde, Mrs. John Latherow of Wilmerding, and Miss Maggie at home. Funeral service was conducted from his late home Wednesday afternoon, by Dr. C.E. Culver of Mt. Union, assisted by Rev. Stewart of Shirleysburg, Rev. Watkins of Alexandria. Interment in the Germany Valley cemetery. The TIMES extends sympathy to the grief stricken family.
