Wautoma Union Cemetery is divided into four main areas. Lots are numbered within each area. Rows of LOTS run west to east within each area and are lettered. Each area is independently lettered and numbered. Cemetery maps are available through the City of Wautoma. No signs exist at the cemetery marking the areas.
Old Grounds (Rows A – H): located north of the first east/west cemetery road. Rows A – D are south of the hill with the flag on it. Rows E – H are west of the buildings and have newer burials. Old Grounds runs from the western edge past two of the north/south cemetery roads and ends between the second and third north/south cemetery road.
New Grounds (Rows A – G): located between Hwy 152 and the first east/west cemetery road. Row A is closest to Hwy 152 and Row G is closest to the first east/west cemetery road. New Grounds runs from the western edge past two of the north/south cemetery roads and ends between the second and third north/south cemetery road.
East Grounds (Rows A – K): located east of the Old Grounds and the New Grounds. It begins between the second and third north/south cemetery roads. Rows A – G are east of the New Grounds. Rows A – E are a narrow band of plots that are west of the third cemetery and Hope Lutheran Cemetery. Rows F & G are north/northwest of Hope Lutheran Cemetery and south of the first east/west cemetery road. Rows H – K are east of the Old Grounds. Large boulders mark the eastern edge of East Grounds.
New East Grounds (Rows A – H): located to the east of East Grounds. Large boulders mark the western edge. Rows A – E and parts of Rows F & G are located east of the furthest east entrance road. Parts of Rows F - H are north of Hope Lutheran Cemetery with Rows F & G south the first east/west cemetery road and Row H north of it. A columbarium is in this area.
Earliest burials in Wautoma Union Cemetery occurred in the early 1850s, shortly after Wisconsin became a state. The City of Wautoma maintains the cemetery and the records. The grounds of Hope Lutheran Cemetery are located within Wautoma Union Cemetery, south of East Grounds Row F and New East Grounds Row F.
