A Cumberland Presbyterian Church was organized in Arcadia on November 11, 1855 by Ministers W. B. Scott, R. M. Searcy, and Hugh McMahon. Thomas McGuire, M. D. McClain, and M. Delany were elected ruling elders of the church.
The congregation met in Arcadia until 1861, until the war began. After the war, Rev. G. H. Clampitt and Rev. S. S. Smart took charge of the church and moved it out to where it now stands with the Oak Grove cemetery.
Directions to the cemetery:
From the west:
Exit from I-20 at Arcadia on Exit 69 (LA Hwy 151) and turn right. After about a mile, at the 2nd red light in downtown Arcadia, LA Hwy 151 ends and you will continue south on LA Hwy 9. After about another mile, at a caution light, you will turn left on LA Hwy 147. Travel about 4 miles east and as the road starts curving to the right, LA Hwy 815 forks off to the left. The cemetery is in the fork of the road. Just follow LA Hwy 147 through the curve and turn left into the church driveway.
From the east:
Exit from I-20 at Simsboro on Exit 77 (LA Hwy 507) and turn left. Go south on LA Hwy 507 about 5 miles. As the roadway makes a hard curve to the right, you'll see that LA Hwy 507 turns off to the left, but LA Hwy 815 continues straight. Follow LA Hwy 815 for about 3 1/2 miles until the LA Hwy 147 cutoff road forks to the left by the cemetery. Take the left fork and turn right into the church driveway.
