There were two burials from the Johanson family, neighbors of the Norgaards, during this same time period. Olina K. Johanson died in a tragic fire on July 8, 1882. Her young son, Oliver, died a short time later, probably as a result of the same fire. Olina was the wife of Niels Johanson and the daughter of Morton and Anna Marie Olson.
For several years the cemetery was called the Norgaard Cemetery or "the cemetery located on the Niels Norgaard land."
The "Ernest Workers Club" from the East Danish Baptist Church helped with planting the trees and flowers and other upkeep of the cemetery for many years. The last mention of this club is in their 1923 minutes, which states, "The E.W.C. has been dissolved and a cemetery association has been organized. The girls have joined the Ladies Aid." The 70 cents left over in their treasury shows up in the 1924 balance sheet for the Riverview Cemetery Association. This appears to the first that the cemetery was called "Riverview Cemetery".
On April 18, 1924, the Riverview Cemetery Association met at Herman Olson's and elected their first officers:
Mrs. David Nelson – President
Mrs. J.E. Jensen – Vice President
Florence Olson – Secretary and Treasurer (She became Mrs. Elmer Christensen and continued to serve in this position for about 50 years.)
Additional land was purchased in 1982 for expansion of the cemetery to the west. The Riverview Cemetery Association was formerly incorporated in 2004 and now operates with an 11 member Board of Directors. Annual meetings of the Association are held in the spring each year.
