Schaffer was an early-day village established along the east-west Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe (ATSF) Railroad, twelve miles east of present-day Rush Center on Kansas Highway 96. The village of Schaffer no longer exists - the post office having closed in 1948. The Missouri Pacific (MoPac) Railroad - now part of the Union Pacific - also traversed east-west, about 5 miles north of the ATSF and spawned two villages eight miles apart - Bison and Otis. The Seventh-day Adventist Cemetery is located equidistant from all three villages and is located in Pioneer Township, at the intersection of Rush County Road 350 and Avenue M. The cemetery (northeast quarter of northeast quarter of Section 6) and the associated German Adventist Church (southeast quarter of the northeast quarter of Section 6) were both established on land owned by Philip Mohr.
